The Twelve Kingdoms

Hands down my N#1 favourite anime is The Twelve Kingdoms. It may not have the violence of Black Lagoon or the epicness of Bleach or the comedy of Soul Eater BUT it does have some really amazing character development in a fantasy world that is just wicked awesome. (and feels; it's packed full of the feels!) The anime is based on a series of Japanese novels by Fuyumi Ono, though I haven't read the novels. I came across the anime dvd's at Supanova acoupla years ago and bought a few- watched them and was instantly hooked!

The story follows Youko, a young Japanese girl who is brought into an alternate universe by the kirin Keiki who has chosen her to be the next queen of the kingdom of Kou. Two of her school friends are also brought along and their fates are forever changed.
The journey is a real struggle for Youko as she doesn't understand the customs and laws of the strange new world she finds herself in but is expected to act as queen - a task she finds extremely difficult,

The series also explores many different characters and story lines that all intertwine which is pretty damn cool! The king of En would probably be my favourite character in the series, his back story is epic!
I really dig all the philosophy and morality in the series, there's some really empathetic and intelligent characters and it just made me wish there were more people like that in the world! But alas, they sadly are few and far between.

Here's a little mash up clip I made https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6ohLXRz8To
